I was wondering if anyone else has been diagnosed in their 20's. There is an uninformed lawer out there that's telling me I'm way too young and my doctor is just trying to make me happy with a diagnoses.
It seems to me that a lot of women are diagnosed later, but they've been complaining of the symptoms for years.
:help: I would love to hear when ya'll were diagnosed, so I can ague better next time I talk to him.
Thank you! i don't know what I would do without the women on this sight!

I have CFS with fibromyalgia symptoms and I'm 24 now .. I was diagnosed at age 16 and symptoms onset at about age 14.

It can and does happen to young people. In fact, a lot of the time symptoms become apparent after mono/glandular fever which is a high school disease generally.

Good Luck! Don't let misinformed people try and tell you that they know your body better than you do!

I was dx in my 20's and I'm 51 now. You sure can have it at that age. It was a long slow process, but I came to terms with it and am now finding myself in a remission. You get those. I've had a couple but my life was so stressful at that time I barely noticed. Hope you can get yourself comfortable. You will always have it but if you can get to a "comfort zone" it helps.

I was diagnosed at 24 after going through several doctors treating me like I was hunting for pain killers and/or nuts. Dont let someone who hasnt been there tell you that you dont have what you know you do-its not all in your head.

Well, I am certain my 22 year old daughter has (undiagnosed) CFS. She has all the symtpoms. And I have noticed that some of her symptoms are similar to my fibro symptoms. She has terrible sleep problems. And has had all these symptoms for about 5 years or so.

I was told in my 20's I had 'fibrocystic disease' of the breasts. I now know it is a 'precursor' of fibromyalgia....

I want to thank all of you so much for responding. I've been LC for a few months now, and I do feel a little better. What would we do without this forum? :rheart:

Hi..this is actually my first post here so hello everyone! :) I suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis from the age of 9 although wasn't diagnosed until I was 16. 11 years later and it seems to be in remission, but I was diagnosed this year (age 27) with Fibromyalgia. I also have stomach and digestion problems which are especially exacerbated by wheat and suffer from chronic depression (I take an SSRI currently). I had no idea that Fibro patients were finding a LowCarb diet beneficial until I came across this forum today. It only reconfirms for me that I should definitely be avoiding wheat *and* high-carb foods. I have also read about the link between high-carb diet and depression. I have been eating high-carb for years (stopped this week!) because I am also a vegeatrian...so my diet was basically bread, pasta, rice, eggs, and cheese. I am now trying to keep the eggs and cheese and lose the high-carbs. I eat a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables now (after years of not eating them at all!) and am trying to remain as low-carb as possible. I am yet to really figure out what my diet will be because I am still adjusting with the new info. I'm so glad I came across this forum!

You should be very proud of yourself for making the decision to eat less carbs. There is always a strange period of adjustment, but after a few weeks ( a very small amount of time in the scheme of things) it becomes second nature. You have a very good chance of relieving your symptoms by avoiding processed and refined products that the human body was NOT meant to eat.
This site is a wonderful resource. I found it by doing a fibro search on google, but I have used it for just about everything. Good luck!

Thanks for the warm welcome and your words of encouragement, Sknymonkey! :) I am so glad I found this forum and am changing my eating patterns to exclude processed foods/carbs, and am finally incorporating all those great veggies and protein that I've missed out on for so long. I haven't decided whether to do the ketosis induction yet, but am already feeling better just for cutting out as many carbs as possible. My stomach isn't bloating anymore, I feel more alert and awake, and most important of all...healthier! It's only been a week and a bit so far, so it's possible I'm just having a good week, but I have a feeling that this lifestyle change is probably the cause. :) My husband is getting *very* curious about it and is starting to eat less carbs too. He suffers from ADHD and I've come across some literature that supports using this diet for relief of ADD/ADHD symptoms as well. I'll keep you posted on our progress. Cheers!
